Out and about by bike with hvv

Bike and public transport are a great combination.  Whether you park your bike at a station, take it on board our services or hire a StadtRAD – you can find all you need to know here.

There are facilities to park your bike at almost all rapid transit and regional rail stations across the entire hvv network (fare rings A-H) as well as at the ferry terminal in Finkenwerder, most of them roofed over. At some stations you can rent a place at a secured bicycle parking space for a small fee.

From Bike+Ride to the new brand Radkultur Hamburg. Hamburg is setting an example here for cycling as a sustainable mobility solution which has an important part to play in the mobility transformation.

And there are plans to make riding your bike in Hamburg even more attractive:

  • Parking places: something like 28,000 parking places for bikes are planned to be available by 2025. Many of them will be under a roof, equipped with parking racks or secure parking places. You can send enquiries or renting a parking space for your bike to Radkultur Hamburg (in German), formerly P+R-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH.
  • Integrated bike repair stations: punctures or other breakdowns can be fixed in no time at all here.
  • Velo routes: we are already on track to expand the existing bike (velo) routes

The metropolitan area around Hamburg is not only a desirable place to live, it also offers the ideal conditions for combining riding your bike and public transport. With something like 7,000 parking places at 40 locations, you have a wide range of options.

  • A place in the dry at the roofed-over bike parking facilities
  • And in view of the growing number of E-bikes, of course we are on the ball: the number of charging points is constantly being added to.
  • Convenience and security are ensured with bicycle lockers or bike garages.

To find out more about secure bike parking facilities, please get in touch with your local town or municipal council.

A whole new range of options – book a parking space for your bike by smartphone

Now you can use the hvv switch App to book a parking space in advance for your bike or a deposit box (complete with a practical charging point) for your helmet, your e-bike battery or other small items at Bad Oldesloe, Elmshorn and Schwarzenbek stations. A display with the available capacity and navigation details of how to find it when you get there are shown on an interactive map. And of course you can view the details of facilities and prices any time you want.

And this is how it works:

Just download the App for iOS or Android, make a one-off registration with hvv switch and record an existing PayPal account, a credit or debit card (Amex, Visa or Mastercard) or a SEPA direct debit as your means of payment. Are you already a customer at hvv switch? Then you can naturally get started straight away!

The menu gives you two options to make your booking:

  • Select the "Beta functions“ area in the menu on your smartphone. The feature is explained there in detail and you can go directly to the B+R facility.
  • Alternatively, you can use the connection search. If you use the filter “By bike to your departure station” and there is a B+R facility within a reasonable distance near you, the relevant connection and suitable routes via a bookable B+R facility to your station will be suggested. When you get there, you don’t need to look around for a place to leave your bike any more, just park it in your space, lock it and off you go.  And by the way: you can also park your cargo bike here in the dry.

Please always be considerate of other passengers. You can only take your bicycle with you if space allows. You can find further details in our FAQs on bicycle transport (only in German).
